Oof okay, love. Grab some tissues, these are devastating. And some feature explicit rape scenes so heed the authors ' warnings if/when you nav to them. Also my apologies that a lot of these are actually gen. I hadn 't realized. But rest assured there 's a lot of strong intimacy between Sam and Dean in these fics even if it 's not romantic.

my thoughts: I read this fic years ago and it still sticks with me as such a scarily realistic snapshot of Sam and Dean trying to just deal with sketchy motels and addled-junkie neighborhoods. Also there 's brother cuddles at the end 😁 Also just FYI this author is on AO3 at ao3.org/users/weesta but these fics haven 't been x-posted; they 're only available on FFnet afaik rn.

my thoughts: This fic 's in my GOAT fic reclist . I think this might be the most bleak and violent dystopia AU I 've ever read yet I 'm recommending it because there was so much love and affection in it at the same time. There aren 't many words for how intense this fic is. My eyes were watering and my hands shaking when I finished. This fic is also in my desolate post-apocalypse reclist .

my thoughts: I remember thinking this felt like a friggin... graphic Law & Order: SVU episode where Dean was the victim/survivor & instead of following the officers, we followed him. Dark and riveting. It 's extremely Dean-centric and full of Dean whump too - I know I 'm all about whumping the fuck outta Sam but every once in awhile I can surprise y 'all, right? Beware this fic 's a WIP but at 238k words you got more than a full story out of it - while the last chapter is an abrupt stop, after a two-second think I was totally fine with it as there wasn 't much of a cliffhanger or anything.
You 'll also be shattered by this next fic, another one of my GOAT fic recs, and a glacially slow burn in the midst of this epic (nearly double the length of Anna Karenina) of trauma & healing, companionship & trust, ugh I could blab for days bout this one:
Freak Camp: A Monster by Any Other Name series by Brosedshield, LaviniaLavender, whereupon (AO3). Rated NC-17, Dean/Sam (unrelated AU), 655k. Summary: Our story takes several steps away from canon. Dean Winchester is an only child. Mary died November 2nd, 1983, but neither in a fire nor on the ceiling. Five-year-old Sam is deported to a concentration camp for monsters. But the core remains the same. This is a love story.

Listed in my top favorite SPN fics eve r. This slavery fic breaks you (Part 2) and then builds you back up piece by piece (Part Three). It 's a 655k epic that 's been going for about 10 years by the authors. It earns every word. It 's an incredible story of abuse, recovery, rehabilitation, independence and eventually love/romance. I 've reread Part Three several times. Chapter 25 is one of my favorite Christmas stories . An end of an era with this fic matches Supernatural 's own announcement that season 15 will be its last I 'm not crying you 're crying.
It was on Sale by HazelDomain (AO3). Rated NC-17, Dean/Sam, Dean/Sam/Cas, Sam/Cas (unrelated AU), 131k words. Summary: Dean 's been hunting solo ever since his dad died, and he knows damn well he 's running on borrowed time. The simple solution was to buy a slave, someone who could watch his back and help with the heavy lifting. The man he finds is young, healthy, obedient, and inexplicably cheap. And that 's just the beginning. Dean figured he 'd deal with the catch when he found it, but he 's a little busy with screaming ghosts, crazy doctors, lying housewives, geeky witches, sociopathic plutocrats, mind melds, celebratory pie, surprise blowjobs, and oh yeah, a surly angel.

This story was intense and compelling. In particular I remember the sense of equality and trust built up and developed between Sam and Dean over time and during cases was super satisfying. Also the just ending rocked my world!

my thoughts: So this fic is a lil more sensational than my other recs where you 're like "what the everloving f*ck" about the villains ' sadism, but the recovery & comfort parts just got me. I was emotionally invested like whoa. And I deeply appreciated the slow burn, specifically Dean being scared something between them would further damage or traumatize Sam. I really appreciate it when authors understand what dangerous waters they 're treading when they feature both rape recovery and romance in their stories.

my thoughts: it 's been awhile since I read this but I remember enough to warn y 'all - brace for extreme cuddles. Like they 'd be sweaty and desperate for space in real life. But it 's not real life, thank goodness, and these cuddly bros have NO expiration date 😂 Pretty basic prose & this author lays the drama down thick but I was still into it! Also their complementary psychic powers were pretty cool and interesting. Now that I think about it, this might not be a fic about recovery (from rape… I think) so much as the journey to get traumatized Sam+Dean to trust Mary+John enough to start recovering. Good fic worth trying out!

my thoughts: Sad and realistic, this is a disturbing but honest take on how canon!Sam and canon!Dean would perhaps deal with this nightmare scenario of possessed!Dean raping Sam (and Dean). I marked this as gen because while there 's incest, it 's rape, and then there 's another instance where it 's like... coercive bc they 're both so fucked up from the rape. Basically the truth of the matter emerges that they 're not (and never have been) attracted to each other, so I put that as gen in my mind. This is a very dramatic, dark and twisted story at first, but that makes the recovery (when a lovely OC therapist is introduced to the story) all the more satisfying.
