I'm in love with fae/fairy stories in large part because of this fic. It's a tremendously imaginative, magical, and lengthy Sam-centric case fic you can really sink your teeth into. Nontraditional casefic in that it's kinda epic & so brilliantly detailed at 141k words

The Ghost by hunters_retreat (AO3). Rated NC-17, Jensen/Jared, 28k words.Summary:  Thirty years ago, humanity was changed. The magic they scoffed at as nothing more than fairy tales and children's illusions was real and the barrier that separated them from that and the world of the fae came crashing down. This fic was really entertaining for its characters and plot. I really enjoyed the mystery, the serial killer thriller aspect, all with the superb fantasy elements of Jensen as a mysterious fae and the fae realm in general playing a big part in the 'climate' of political reality in this fic. Really well done!

The Teind on All Hallows' Eve by Jedi Sapphire (AO3). Rated PG-13, Gen, 9k words. Summary: Sam Winchester has been taken by the fairies and pressed into service in the elf guard. It's up to Dean to save him before something very bad happens. Vague spoilers to S5/S6 if you really squint.

my thoughts: fae!Sam FAE!SAM FAE!SAM Need I say more? Sam doesn't recognize him when he enters the fae realm to save him, either, so it's an uphill battle for Dean to grab Sam and get out 😆

The Dizzy Heights of This Dreamed of World by whisperedstory. Rated explicit, Jensen/Jared, 34k words. Summary: Jared is left on the Padaleckis' doorstep as a baby with no clues as to who he is or where he's come from. As he grows up with a life full of love and support from his adoptive family, he never loses the dreams of some far off place with green hills and meadows, a sprawling forest and gurgling stream. It's a beautiful and peaceful there, and every night Jared has his dream landscape all to himself — until he starts hearing a voice calling for him.
When a stranger on a motorcycle shows up on campus a few months later, Jared suddenly has a new reality to consider. Not only is he fae and betrothed to this man — who introduces himself as Jensen — Jared's also in mortal danger. Torn between wanting to keep living a normal life and figuring out who he really is, Jared reluctantly agrees to let Jensen prepare him for the danger up ahead and unearth his own fae powers. As time goes on, he starts to feel more and more drawn to Jensen and he comes to realize that they share a bond that reaches well beyond an arranged marriage.

This fic was so well-written and sweet. A comforting read. A great mix of classic domestic comfort, romance, fae fantasy & self-discovery, with a couple thrills and one nice angsty miscommunicate snafu. Lovely happy ending too.
